Our Summer Padel Tournament is now Open For Entries!

See below note from our Tournament Organiser Alex Wilson - 07944 513615 (tournament enquiries and entries)

After extensive consideration and research we’re tweaking things a bit and adding a couple of new draws this Summer with a view to encouraging more participation.

There will be the following tournaments as we ran for the winter tournament:

- ladies open

- mens open

- mixed open

- mens vets (see below)

In addition, and subject to their being sufficient numbers (at least 8 pairs), we also aim to run the following:

- ladies vets (see below)

- Mixed vets (see below); and

- a “padel pioneers” draw aimed at new, inexperienced and/or improving players (see below).

For the “vets” tournament, we’re going to try something different and apply the 100+ rule; more specifically both players must be aged at least 40 and the combined aggregate age must be at least 100 (does that make you feel old??). Hopefully I don’t need to explain the maths here (but, do let me know if I do need to explain). Cut off date for the age measurement will be 1 October 2025 (I will trust you on your age though we will be doing random age and drug tests and the winners will be tested).

To be eligible for the “padel pioneers”draw, your ranking must be 3.0 or less. However, one of the pair can have a ranking up to but no higher than 3.30. But if a pair does include someone over 3 (but 3.30 or less), then that pair will have a slight handicap in the matches (the handicap being that the “over ranked” pair will only have one serve not the traditional two serves). I hope that makes sense. This is just one draw, men, women, mixed all in one.

Any pair entering the main men or ladies draw who meet the pioneers’ criteria will automatically be entered in to the pioneers draw. And, in case you’re wondering, the rationale behind this is just to help ensure more tournament time for those improving players and to not be too strict about the cut off point in terms of ranking. Plus I’m desperate to experiment with handicapping better players not least to give me a better chance; it’s all about me obvs (that means obviously for the non kids out there).

Some other admin:

- Entry closing date is end of Wednesday 28th May

- Finals Day is Saturday 6th September (please do not enter if you are not around for finals day)

- To enter just send me a message (what’s app or email) or email the club with your name, telephone number, which draws you want to enter, your ranking and the name of your partner. If you don’t have a partner I’ll try to match you up with other singletons.

- Free entry for members. For non members the cost is £10 to enter two draws.

- You can enter as many draws as you’re eligible for but you will be limited to the number of finals you can play (2, potentially 3, depending on how many draws we ultimately have).

One final point, depending on the number of entries, the first round matches will likely need to be completed at some point in June. So, if you aren’t around in June (or indeed July or August) then please think long and hard about whether it makes sense for you to enter. It was a real headache dealing with people in the winter tournament who immediately went off to the Seychelles or Maldives for 6 weeks after entering for example. Otherwise please do enter, the more the merrier!!

Actually one final thing, I just need to say that by entering you agree for your phone number to be shared with other entrants purely for matches to be organised!
